Ski Guide Course 2010
On the way with the prospecive Guides...
It happened once again - from April 10th until 23rd the Austrian Ski Guide Course II/2010 was held under the direction of Mäx Morandell. In the first week at the Bielerhöhe in the Silvretta mountains the canditates got instructions in severel topics like route planning, route guiding, orientation, navigation, snow- and avalanche education, mountain rescue techniques, avalanche rescue, bivouac etc. At the same time several routes have been done, thousands of vertical meters on excellent snow conditions and some combined ridges have been accomplished. The final examination of the ski guide course is to plan, organise and guide a traverse through a mountain range with specified goals by the instructor. My group had to bring me trough the northern Stuabi alps, I planned a "classic" Stuabi traverse. The start and the finish of the traverse was in Lüsens. On our way we reached Längentaler Weißenkogel (3218m), Ruderhofspitze (3473m), Schrankogel (3496m) and Lisener Fernerkogel (3299m). Highlight on this round was without a doubt the 1700 meter long downhill on the south face of Ruderhofspitze on perfect corn snow. Finally the course ended well and without any injuries, I had a good time with "my" boys and after 12.000 vertical meters in my legs I am looking forward to sunny rock - wintertime is finished now defenitely.
